Conflict Coaching

Conflict Coaching

Conflict is an inescapable part of living. In most cases, we are able to resolve the issues. But sometimes conflict reaches a point where it begins to seriously degrade our lives.

Conflict Coaching sessions are appropriate for a wide range of disputes:

  • Workplace: boss / employee, peer to peer
  • Commercial
  • Neighbors
  • Siblings
  • Parent / Child
  • Interpersonal: friend to friend
  • Marital

Our options are always greatest at the beginning of a dispute.  This is when our ‘cooler head’ prevails– when talking, problem solving, and compromise all have the best chance of succeeding. All too often, this phase disappears faster than a drop of water on a hot skillet. As the conflict deepens, each side hardens their position. The harder the position, the less chance productive dialogue has of working. Without dialogue, there are no options. Without options, there is no solution.

In a Conflict Coaching session, I will help you achieve three things: Awareness, Perspective and Strategy.

Awareness = Control

Most conflicts have three elements in common: emotion, identity and power. In helping you look at your dispute through each of these lenses, you will gain awareness of how the conflict is affecting you . With this consciousness, you are less prone to let emotional triggers lead to bad decisions.

Perspective = Deeper Understanding

Self-awareness is not enough. It is crucial that you understand how the conflict is affecting the other person and what that person’s motivations are.  To do this, I will help you apply the same lenses of emotion, identity and power so that you understand what is triggering the other party. Now you can begin to concentrate on what to do about it.

Strategy = Awareness + Perspective

Awareness and perspective are tools that will give you invaluable insights in how to deal with the conflict. With this knowledge you can begin to build a strategy. In a strategy session, I will help you evaluate various options and the best ways to implement them.

Session Fees and Length

Each session lasts 60 minutes and costs $175. The fee is payable at the end of each session via Venmo, PayPal, Chase Quick Pay, cash or personal check.

Is Conflict Coaching like therapy?

No. Unlike therapy, which often delves into the past and explores psychological issues, Conflict Coaching focuses on the present and future and is a strategy-based system. Therapy, commonly, is a long-term process, whereas Conflict Coaching can usually be completed in 2 to 6 sessions.
